Friday 22nd May
Back to central station to hand out the flyers. Small one worked the upstairs inside the station and got 6-7 people, whilst tall one worked the street outside and got none. But, tall one did observe the efficient Railway repairmen at work. It took four of them to put a bucket under a small leak in the roof then put hazard tape and cones around it.
After the excitement of the leak incident, some rival flyer people setup behind tall one. These had a big banner stating Cheap Hostel for $18 a night (it may have been $16 the printing was bad). Small one and Tall one now had competition. Spent the day UN-productively not looking for work. At night time were both awaken at 2.30am by a man letting himself into our dorm saying he was looking for a chair to help him catch a spider. There was no chair in our room, so he left. Small one was then kept awake by drunks arriving home, while Tall one slept through it, except for his sleep talking about spiders being on his face, which also kept small one awake.
Saturday 23rd May
Had planned to get up early and get to station for 6am to beat the competition. Instead got up at 8.30am. Did food shopping and only spent $60 for two people instead of the $100 sent last week. In the evening was planning to go and see the free fireworks show at Darling Harbour at 7.30pm. On the way out of the hostel was cornered by the German 'friend' with the lisp.
Small one gave a vague excuse that we had to go in a hurry, Tall one said we had to go to catch the fireworks. The German 'friend' with the lisp said she'd seen them twice already but would come with us. Small one blamed Tall one, they both felt dismayed. On the walk down the German 'friend' with the lisp spoke about her trip up the scabby Sydney Sky Tower and how she spent $50 on a buffet. She went on to list that they have ssssphalad, tomataosssph, cucumberssssph, all typessssph of lettucccccphe.... chicken sssssphalad, beef sssssphalad.... and went on to list the entire menu and desserts for the whole ten minute walk to the harbour. At the harbour she advised Small one that the best place to stand and watch the fireworks was somewhere up high (where it was full of people to stand behind) and this was better as the fireworks went UP into the air. At this point small one text tall one to 'RUN'. We watched from the ground regardless.
After the fireworks she returned home to cook dinner with strangers, including an aggressive Jew. Tall one and Small one walked to the Harbour Bridge and Opera House to see them lit up at night.
Sunday 24th May
Decided to walk to Bondi Beach from the City Centre, leaving at 10.30am. A very long walk down Oxford street looking for number 324 where Small One had an interview tomorrow. But, it seemed Oxford street was so long that as it entered another suburb the numbers stopped counting up and started again from one... So just as we thought we were finally getting close to 324 we would enter Paddington or Bondi Junction suburb and the numbers would change from 299 to 1 again. Eventually found 324 where Small one went inside to enquire exactly what type of job he was applying for tomorrow. Small one found a marketing office run by Muslims and filled with young people drunk at 11am. Small one did want to to go to the interview any more. Lunch was brought from Coles supermarket and a park was being sought to sit in the sun and eat. After walking for 15 minutes Tall one and Small one settled on a scrubby little park on a road junction, where a tramps sleeping bag lay under the bench and the area was filled with Magpies and Pigeons.
Lunch was finished, then two minutes further down Oxford Street a lovely huge, lush green park was found with picnic benches.... but no lunch was left to be had. Arrived at Bondi beach at about 1.00pm. The sun was still shining, it was a nice beach. Small one and Tall one attempted to get into a private looking bar but failed, and just looked over the balcony as the members ate charcoaled sausages off of a BBQ. .jpg)
A walk along the beach past the surfers .jpg)
and crabs in rock pools
and it was noted that most of the Indian families and children were walking into the ocean fully clothed. Shoes, socks, trousers, shirts... everything seemed to be left on.
Walking back tall one and small one were tired and caught a bus instead of walking.
